DA Admits to Unprofessionalism – MJEOL Bullet # 31 District Attorney Tom Sneddon, after promising that he would not give interviews, gave yet another sit-down interview to CNN’s Art Harris. If you’ve been following this story, you’ll know that the joking demeanor of the DA caused outrage and shock among both the public and the media. In this most recent interview, Sneddon says “I think the criticism was valid, I think that to some extent [the comment] was inappropriate.” Sneddon also apologizes for using the term “wacko jacko” during a previous interview he gave to media pal Diane Dimond (see Dimond & Sneddon: Too Close for Comfort?). He says “In my interview with Diane Dimond, I made reference to Mr. Jackson in some terms that are slang or jargon terms. I knew as soon as I said it, it was inappropriate, it was unprofessional [and] I was immediately sorry for it.” However, he did not apologize for saying it on camera during that interview with Dimond, nor did he act remorseful about it. Apologizes aside, there still has yet to be an explanation as to why he proclaimed he would not do interviews, yet the DA has done two interviews thus far concerning the Jackson case before Jackson has even been formally charged with any crime. It is also unclear whether or not he would have apologized for his highly unprofessional behavior if he were not criticized so harshly. Sneddon mentions being chided by his wife for his behavior. He adds: “…and in all candor, I’d have to say that if my mom was still alive she would take me to task for not being a good person…” Whether or not Sneddon is actually a “good person” depends on who you ask. CNN recently asked the question: “Did the DA jump the gun?” in relation to issuing a warrant for Jackson’s arrest and making him turn over his passport. Many in both the media and the general public think if the DA had corroborated, solid evidence against him, Jackson would have already been charged. Prosecution sources claim that they have to sift through a huge amount of information for possible evidence. However, other journalists are skeptical about that explanation, with many saying that it is possible the DA may be looking for evidence he should have already had before securing an arrest warrant against Jackson. Exactly under what circumstances he secured that arrest warrant is unknown. But experts say it is not uncommon for an arrest warrant to be issued solely based on the word of an allegation of molestation, whether it’s true or not. This remorseful attitude comes after information has been revealed concerning the mother’s past behavior. In a recent interview, the divorce attorney for the father, H. Halpern, says during his council for the father, he uncovered evidence of the mother essentially coaching her children on what to say when asked questions by authorities in a legal case unrelated to the Jackson case (see Mother Coached Kids to Lie Before?). Her own divorce attorney Michael Manning spoke out recently saying that the mother was speaking glowingly of Jackson as recent as April/May of this year. Manning says, " 'He was really good to us' -- that's what she said at the time.” When Manning was asked if she said anything bad at all about Jackson, he says “Nothing bad. ... If it turned sour, I don't know how” (see Mother’s Divorce Attorney Backs Jackson’s Story) -MJEOL
