APRIL 15 2005 (3:20 PM ET) — Janet Arvizo continues to be evasive and to spin her testimony on the stand. According to reports from Savannah Guthrie, the mother admitted to lying under oath in that J.C. Penney lawsuit. And it’s even worse than a number of people thought. The basis for her allegation against JC Penney, that the guards had abused her and left bruises on her body, was not true. She claimed bruises on her body were the result of being beaten by the JC Penney security guards. She said during that deposition that she was never abuse by her husband. Regardless of what the truth about that was, the fact is that those bruises didn’t come from the JC Penney guards. So the very thing she used as proof to get a $140,000 settlement from JC Penney was false (or falsified) evidence. According to a report last year from NBC’s Mike Taibbi, in that JC Penney lawsuit 2 years later, she tacked on a charge of sexual abuse, claiming she was fondled in her pelvic area for up to seven minutes in broad daylight. She also got her children to back up this allegation as well. By all accounts, it is a contentious and explosive atmosphere in the courtroom. At one point, the mother claimed she was lying on one of the videos showing her saying wonderful things about Jackson. The mother claimed she got in trouble and said something to the effect ‘I guess I’m not a good actress’. To which Mesereau sarcastically replied something to the effect ‘Oh I think you’re a very good actress.’ Mesereau isn’t letting her get away with anything on the stand and he’s not backing down from her allegations while she’s “self-imploding”, reports Michael Cardoza, on the stand. APRIL 15 2005 (2:00 PM ET) — Janet Arvizo is being cross-examined by Jackson attorney Thomas Mesereau today. Fox News’s Trace Gallagher is reporting that the mother is being very evasive on the stand. He says that Arvizo is trying to skirt the questions. Gallagher says Mesereau brought out the fact that the accuser once accused his own mother of abusing him a few years ago. To that, as reported, Janet Arvizo apparently made the excuse that he was just a kid then. According to Gallagher’s report, Mesereau also revealed that the mother accused the biological father of molesting the sister, Davellin Arvizo, during their divorce as well. So the family has a history of leveling a lot of unfounded allegations. And certainly with the accuser’s history of (falsely?) accusing the mother of abuse, that plays into this in a number of ways. It could show his willingness to level allegations against those who he’s upset with. Or it could be indicative of a domineering mother controlling the accuser. As soon as we get information that isn’t spin from Diane Dimond of Court TV, we’ll post.
