Stella’s Column March 13, 2007 BY STELLA FOSTER Sun-Times Columnist THE SCOOP: My brilliant sister Jamie Foster Brown, publisher of Sister2Sister magazine, was the sole press person traveling in Tokyo with pop star Michael Jackson and his entourage — which included his mother, Katharine Jackson, and his three children, Paris, Prince and Blanket. Jamie, who like me hails from Englewood on the South Side, called this reporter from Japan and had this to say: “It has been amazing to see how people will risk life and limb darting in and out of traffic on foot to get a glimpse of Michael or to touch him. The fans in Japan literally inhale him,” Jamie said. “He is very accommodating … very happy, kissing and hugging folks and letting them hold him and hug him.”

Jackson was taking a break from days of parties with die-hard fans and well-heeled business people. About 3,000 troops and their family members gathered at a fitness center at Camp Zama. Jackson walked around shaking hands and exchanging words to thank them for their service. “Those of you in here today are some of the most special people in the world,” Jackson told the crowd, reading from a statement. “It is because of you in here today, and others who so valiantly have given their lives to protect us, that we enjoy our freedom.”

Michael Jackson makes “san kyu” visit to Japan Fri Mar 9, 2007 6:35AM EST Jackson was not expected to sing or dance at Friday’s event, which cost a relatively modest 15,000 yen ($130) per head, but organizers said he would talk to all attendees. No cameras were to be allowed inside. “I love his eyes, his nose and his dance,” said 7-year-old Jun Sahs, waiting outside the Studio Coast venue. The event was scheduled for March 9, because the date can be pronounced “san kyu,” which sounds like “thank you” in Japanese, organizers said.

Thursday, March 8, 2007 · Last updated 10:47 a.m. PT Michael Jackson ‘wouldn’t change’ career By ERIC TALMADGE ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER TOKYO — Amid a lavish party filled with fans, impersonators, orphans and handicapped children, Michael Jackson said Thursday that he wouldn’t change the path of his career, despite “deliberate attempts to hurt me.” The reclusive pop star, in Tokyo for several “fan appreciation events,” was the guest of honor at a party where about 400 people paid $3,500 each for a buffet dinner, a show featuring several Japanese Jackson impersonators and a chance to take photos with Jackson. More than 100 orphans and handicapped children were invited for free. Wearing sunglasses and dressed in a black-and-gold Roberto Cavalli suit, Jackson appeared on the stage at the end of the six-hour party to read a brief thank you.
