Jackson’s lawyers say Indiana lawsuit is meritless

Latest from Indianapolis via AP: [quote]INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Attorneys for Michael Jackson said Friday that a lawsuit accusing the reclusive pop star of infringing on another band’s name and two of their songs is bordering on “ridiculousness.” After years of silence from Jackson, Robert Meyer, a Chicago lawyer representing Jackson in the suit, said attorneys filing the suit against Jackson have misrepresented his client’s link to the album. “Michael had nothing to do with the record, nor the production of the record, nor what songs went onto the record, nor what the liner notes for the record say, nor anything to do with this record,” Meyer said. “They may have a lawsuit against somebody, but it’s not Michael Jackson.” The lawsuit, filed in 1997 in U.S. District Court in Hammond, alleges the Jackson Five used the name of another Gary band Ripples & Waves and two of their songs without license. At issue is the 1996 album “Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings,” released on Brunswick Records.
