Carter [i]February 26, 2004[/i] [b]With tears in his eyes, Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs listened Wednesday night as a statement from pop star and ex-Motowner Michael Jackson was read. The ailing singer batted his eyes as he heard Jackson refer to him as “a true legend and an American treasure.”[/b] Hundreds came out to the Roostertail in Detroit to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Four Tops and to deliver well-wishes to Stubbs, who has not performed with the group since 2000 after suffering a mild heart attack and a stroke.
