(andPOP) – Kanye West, Akon and will.i.am are helping Michael Jackson celebrate the 25th anniversary of “Thriller” by remixing some of his biggest hits for a new edition of the iconic album, due for release Feb. 12.
The anniversary edition will feature a remix of “Billie Jean” by West and new versions of “The Girl Is Mine” and “P.Y.T.” by will.i.am.
will.i.am also revamps “Wanna Be Startin’ Something” with Akon.
In addition, the package will include rare and unreleased material from that time period, including a track called “For All Time.” Jackson has personally mixed and mastered the song, which was recorded during “Thriller” but didn’t make it onto the original album.
Jackson’s original “Billie Jean” demo and the rarities “Someone in the Dark” and “Carousel” will also be included.
The reissue comes with a bonus DVD featuring the “Thriller,” “Beat It” and “Billie Jean” videos, as well as Jackson’s performance of the latter from the 1983 NBC special “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever.”
Jackson has reportedly been working on his first studio album since 2001, but the status of the project is unknown at this time.
There have also been rumours of a Jackson 5 reunion and tour in 2008.
