Tribeca Film Festival: Making of Thriller Premieres

The Tribeca Film Festival kicked off its free outdoor screenings Thursday night with a documentary detailing the making of Michael Jackson’s legendary "Thriller" video from 1984.

Jackson fans of all ages turned out the special drive-in screening at the World Financial Center.

Makeup artists helped transform the movie-goers into video zombies and choreographers taught them how to do the zombie dance.

Director John Landis helmed both the music video and the documentary. He says "Thriller" was ahead of its time.

"You should see it big, and it’s a little short movie, that’s one of the reasons why it’s not fair to compare other videos to it because at that time videos were like $60,000 commercials," said Landis.

The cast of Bravo’s "Step It Up & Dance" also paid tribute to the King of Pop with a special performance.
