Another example: Writing to the media DOES work

Posted by

This is a perfect example of what I always tell you all. When you write to the media when you are pissed off at something, you have an impact on that author. At the very least, you make them think about what they say. [quote]If Michael Jackson’s “Private Home Movies” special Thursday night didn’t light any rating fires for Fox [during a night where Fox was competing for ratings against other networks, where highly anticipated storylines were coming to a head], it didn’t diminish the fierce loyalty of Jackson’s fans. I can say this because after suggesting last Friday that the special was indulgent, manipulative and, frankly, a little dull, my E-mail folder went to Code Orange with angry notes of disagreement. Like Victoria James, for instance, explaining that “the program was actually pretty good because it was devoid of know-nothings taking cheap shots at everything he does.” Or Malc Jennings telling me Michael Jackson is “the only pop star to write any good music.” Fair enough, and while I have to admit I’d rather read a thousand angry E-mails than have to watch the program again, clearly not everyone agrees. Here, then, are some comments from those who don’t. “Face it, man. Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer that ever walked the face of this earth. He is fascinating. He is a true humanitarian. He has the guts to defy the media! And that is why you guys hate him so much. Michael is living his life. Why don’t you go somewhere and live yours?” — L.
